The iconic red-and-white lighthouse overlooking Harbour Town Golf Links has long defined the atmosphere of the RBC Heritage, offering players and fans a sense of calm after the intensity of the Masters. Despite this laid-back setting, the tournament has evolved into one of the PGA Tour’s premier events, now in its fourth year as a signature competition featuring a $20 million purse and no 36-hole cut.

This year’s edition brings together an exclusive field of 82 players, set to begin play on Thursday at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Eight of the world’s top 10 golfers are competing, with only Rory McIlroy—fresh off consecutive Masters triumphs—and Justin Rose, who withdrew after another near-miss at Augusta, absent from the lineup.

Recent champions underline the event’s growing prestige. Jordan Spieth claimed victory in 2022 before narrowly losing a playoff to Matt Fitzpatrick in 2023. Scottie Scheffler followed up his Masters win with a Heritage title in 2024, while Justin Thomas triumphed last year after edging Andrew Novak in a playoff.

Thomas returns not only as defending champion but also with family in tow, balancing competition with personal time. Accompanied by his wife and young daughter, he reflected on how different the experience feels this year as his child becomes more active, hoping to enjoy moments away from the course, including time at the beach.

On the course, Thomas has been consistently strong at Harbour Town, recording rounds in the 60s in 12 of his last 13 appearances and finishing tied for fifth before last year’s victory. The course itself has undergone subtle restoration work, with players noting that its classic character remains intact.

Max Homa echoed that sentiment, highlighting the course’s enduring appeal despite minor updates. He enters the tournament with renewed confidence after securing his first top-10 finish of the season at the Masters, following a challenging period in his career. Homa believes his form has steadily improved, even if results have yet to fully reflect it.

Another player to watch is Jacob Bridgeman, who has emerged as one of the season’s rising talents. After a breakthrough win at the Genesis Invitational earlier this year, he sits third in the FedEx Cup standings. A South Carolina native and Clemson graduate, Bridgeman considers the Heritage a homecoming of sorts, having grown up competing on the same course.

With a blend of elite competition, personal storylines, and the unique charm of Harbour Town, the RBC Heritage once again promises a compelling week on the PGA Tour.
