Posted : 17 April 2026

Rasaq Muritala emerged as the overall champion of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) 60th anniversary golf tournament. The event took place at the Ikeja Golf Club and featured a highly competitive field of golfers from across the country. Muritala, playing off a Handicap-8, recorded an impressive gross score of 74 to finish with a 66-net total.

The champion expressed his deep gratitude to the organizers and sponsors after navigating the challenging fairways to claim the trophy. His performance set a high standard for the rest of the field in the men's net category. Goke Akinboro followed in the standings as the first runner-up after carding a net score of 70. Kehinde Kassim secured the second runner-up position with a 71-net, while Olatinwo Oluyomi and Charles Onwude rounded out the top five.

In the Ladies’ Guest category, Chichi Alamu continued her streak of success by claiming first place with a net score of 72. Shade Opawumi finished as the runner-up in the division with a 75-net score. Lady Nta Ekpo also earned a spot on the winners' chart by finishing in third place. The tournament served as a key social highlight of the institute’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

Oluwaseun Aderibigbe, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, noted his satisfaction with the high turnout of participants. He explained that golf was chosen specifically because it shares fundamental values with the accounting profession, such as integrity and transparency. The committee lead highlighted that the landmark nature of the 60th anniversary necessitated a tournament of this scale and quality.

ICAN President Haruna Yahaya reinforced these sentiments during the closing ceremonies. He described golf as a game of precision and critical thinking that mirrors the professional standards required of chartered accountants. Yahaya recommended the sport to executives nationwide, citing its positive impact on physical health and business networking. The anniversary celebrations concluded with a commitment to continue using sports as a bridge for professional engagement.
