Radda boosts Para Athletes with N10m after impressive National Para Games outing

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to sports development by rewarding the state’s para athletes with a cash sum of N10 million following their performance at the recently concluded National Para Games.

The athletes, who returned with a mix of gold, silver, and bronze medals, were received at the Government House, where they formally presented their medals to the governor in recognition of the state’s support.

Led by the Commissioner for Sports, Engr. Surajo Yazid Abukur, alongside the Executive Director of the Katsina State Sports Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Rawayau, the delegation highlighted the team’s achievements at the national event, where Katsina secured a commendable 13th position among all participating states and the FCT.

Governor Radda, while addressing the athletes and officials, praised their resilience and determination, noting that their success has brought pride and recognition to the state. He emphasized that their performance serves as motivation for the government to intensify its investment in sports, particularly in providing opportunities for athletes with special needs.

The governor also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s dedication to nurturing sporting talents across the state, assuring that more initiatives and incentives would be introduced to sustain growth in the sector.

In a further boost for the state’s sporting profile, five athletes from the team have earned national call-ups, securing spots in Nigeria’s para soccer and para cycling teams ahead of the forthcoming All African Games.

The recognition and financial reward underscore Katsina State’s growing commitment to inclusivity and excellence in sports.

This gesture highlights the government's appreciation for the hard work displayed by these athletes on a national platform. With five representatives now moving on to the All African Games, the future of para-sports in Katsina looks increasingly bright. The governor's pledge of continued support ensures that the state remains a hub for developing world-class athletic talent.
