Promotion Race heats up as Wikki, Rhino, QAT record key victories

Posted : 03 June 2026

The battle for promotion and league supremacy intensified on Match Day 8 of the 2026 National Division 1 and Division 2 Volleyball Leagues, with Wikki Spikers, Rhino Spikers, QAT Spikers, and NY Spikers emerging as some of the day's biggest winners in Abuja.

Wikki Spikers continued their impressive campaign in the Men's Division 1, overcoming Kada Kings 3-1 to consolidate their position among the leading contenders.

Wikki dominated the opening two sets 25-16 and 25-18 before Kada Kings fought back to claim the third set 25-17. However, Wikki restored order in the fourth set, sealing a 25-21 victory and maximum points.

Wikki Spikers head coach, Monday Dada, attributed the victory to thorough preparation and the determination of his players.

"It was nothing but hard work. We prepared well, had a game plan, and by the grace of God it worked. It was a difficult match, but we are grateful for the result," Dada said.

The coach also urged his players to take advantage of the league as a stepping stone to bigger opportunities.

"You have to perform at your best because bigger teams are watching. My dream is to see my players grow and move on to greater heights in their careers," he added.

Rhino Spikers also boosted their promotion credentials with a 3-1 triumph over Sword VC in another entertaining Men's Division 1 encounter.

Rhino secured the first set 25-21 before Sword VC leveled matters with a 25-17 win in the second set.

Rhino responded emphatically, taking the third set 25-10 and edging the fourth set 25-23 to complete the victory.

In the Women's Division 1, QAT Spikers staged one of the most dramatic comebacks of the day to defeat Caliphate Spikers 3-1.

After losing the opening set 25-19, QAT rallied strongly to claim the next three sets 25-21, 31-29, and 25-20 in a thrilling contest.

NY Spikers also kept their momentum alive with a 3-1 victory over ACE Angels. They took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-18 before ACE Angels responded with a dominant 25-12 third-set win. NY Spikers regained composure in the fourth set, winning 25-21 to wrap up an important result.

Meanwhile, in the Men's Division 2 category, Plateau Rocks strengthened their push for promotion with a 3-1 victory over Caliphate Spikers. Plateau Rocks cruised through the opening set 25-9 but were pegged back after losing the second set 25-20.

They recovered to edge a tense third set 28-26 before sealing the match with a 25-19 fourth-set win.

With the competition entering its decisive stages, every point is proving crucial as teams across both divisions continue their pursuit of promotion, championship honors, and national recognition.

These decisive Match Day 8 fixtures have set a thrilling benchmark for the remaining rounds of the tournament. The tactical adjustments and psychological resilience displayed by the winning sides underscore the high stakes of the competition. As the campaign nears its conclusion, the margins for error will narrow further, promising more intense battles for promotion.
