Port Harcourt Ready for 3rd LGAN Interclub Golf Championship

Posted : 12 May 2026

The city of Port Harcourt is set to come alive with golfing activities as the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) hosts the 3rd Interclub Golf Championship from May 13 to May 16 at the Port Harcourt Club 1928 Golf Section.

The championship, themed “Swing Bold, Play Brilliant,” is expected to attract female golfers from affiliated clubs across the country in a tournament aimed at promoting women’s participation and excellence in golf.

Recognized by the R&A as a World Amateur Golf Ranking event, the championship also enjoys the backing of several corporate organizations, including First Bank of Nigeria Limited.

President of LGAN, Lami Onayi Ahmed, described the tournament as more than just a competition, noting that it would strengthen friendship, discipline, and healthy rivalry among players.

According to Ahmed, the association remains committed to creating opportunities for female golfers to compete at elite levels while also discovering new talents capable of representing Nigeria internationally.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and LGAN First Vice President, Nkoyo Igunbor, outlined activities lined up for the opening day, including arrivals, practice rounds, hoisting of LGAN and club flags, ceremonial tee-off, and a cocktail reception.

She said participants are expected to appear in LGAN jackets on white bottoms during the flag-off ceremony scheduled for 4:30 p.m., while the ceremonial tee-off begins by 5 p.m.

Igunbor added that the competition proper will tee off on May 14 with the opening round after breakfast, while social activities such as karaoke and lunch have also been arranged to spice up the championship.

The second round comes up on May 15, while the final round and presentation of prizes will hold on May 16 alongside closing ceremonies and lunch for invited guests and sponsors.

She also disclosed that caddy fees for the championship have been fixed at N5,000 for the duration of the event.

The 3rd Interclub Golf Championship stands as a significant milestone for the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria in its mission to elevate women's golf. By combining elite competition with social engagement, the event promises to showcase Nigeria's golfing talent while fostering a spirit of community and growth within the sport.
