Tom Pidcock secured his fourth victory of the season with a powerful sprint on stage two of the Vuelta a Andalucia. The British rider surged ahead in the final 150 meters following a steep climb, outpacing his former Ineos Grenadiers teammate Brandon Rivera, who finished second. Pavel Sivakov, another ex-colleague now riding for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, crossed the line in third, a result that saw him take the overall race lead. Pidcock’s strong finish moved him up to third in the general classification, trailing Sivakov by 32 seconds in the five-stage race.
After an eighth-place finish on the opening stage, Pidcock admitted he had been overly aggressive in his approach but was pleased with his performance on stage two. He emphasized his tactical improvement, stating that he remained calm and let the race unfold naturally before executing his winning move. The 25-year-old celebrated his victory in signature style, jumping his bike over a speedbump as he crossed the finish line. Expressing his delight, he noted the significance of securing another win and maintaining a strong position in the general classification.
Pidcock’s triumph marked his third individual stage win of the year, adding to his earlier success at the AlUla Tour in Saudi Arabia, where he claimed overall victory. His ability to navigate tough terrain and deliver in key moments has reinforced his status as one of the standout riders of the season. With his latest success in Andalucia, he continues to build momentum, showcasing his strength in both stage wins and general classification battles.
The decisive moment of the stage came on the demanding 133.2km route from Alcaudete to Torredelcampo, where Pidcock bridged across to the race leaders with around 40km remaining. He formed part of a five-man breakaway that managed to stay clear of a chasing group led by overnight leader Maxim van Gils. As the finish approached, Pidcock timed his attack to perfection, surging ahead and claiming victory in commanding fashion.
