National senior men’s team player, Philip Akande, has been appointed as the new captain of the Nigeria Customs Service Volleyball Club (NCS VC) ahead of the 2025 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League.
Akande will be supported by Emmanuel Udah as first captain and Princewill Okoh as second captain. In addition, Godfrey Isaac and Usman Ado have been named team coordinators.
Samuel Onikeku, Head of Sports at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), announced that 18 players have been selected to represent the team following two weeks of intensive trials.
Onikeku explained that the team’s restructuring is aimed at boosting performance in this year’s league after the club failed to finish on the podium last season.
“I want to thank the previous leadership for their dedication to the team, having led the squad to three national league titles and a Super Cup victory in Lagos a few years ago,” he said.
He noted that some key players have transitioned into coaching, while others have retired due to personal commitments, which necessitated the leadership overhaul.
“Ahead of this year’s CGC Volleyball League, Philip Akande has been appointed team captain, assisted by Emmanuel Udah and Princewill Okoh,” Onikeku added.
“We believe their appointments will usher in a new era for the men’s team and help them contend for the title this season.”
He also urged the players to uphold the values of the service and be exemplary ambassadors on and off the court.
“To the selected players, I implore you to give your utmost for the team and make the Nigeria Customs Service proud,” he concluded.
