PGA Tour, LIV Golf Could Reach Agreement Before Masters, Says Paul McGinley

Posted : 17 February 2025

Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has suggested that a deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf could be announced before the Masters in April. Negotiations have been ongoing between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s backers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), to find a structure for professional golf that includes both entities.

McGinley expressed optimism about the talks, acknowledging that while progress has been slow, the discussions are now closer to a resolution than ever before.

McGinley emphasized the importance of unity in the sport, stating that although the process of reconciliation will take time, the goal is to establish a collaborative structure that benefits all involved, including the DP World Tour.

He noted that the focus should be on creating a framework in which all tours can operate under a common umbrella, leading to a unified schedule. McGinley indicated that an announcement could come soon, potentially before the Masters tournament in April.

LIV Golf, which was launched in 2022, has attracted top players like Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, and Brooks Koepka. Recently, Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin joined LIV Golf, turning down the PGA Tour card he earned earlier in favor of the controversial tour, despite the advice of his mentor, Rory McIlroy.

This move highlights the ongoing shifts within professional golf as players navigate the evolving landscape between the two tours.
