Para soccer: Kaduna beat Plateau 4-2 to clinch third position

The Kaduna State para-soccer team defeated their Plateau counterparts 4-2 to clinch third place in para-soccer at the ongoing Para-Sports Games in Abuja.


The match was played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.


An own goal by Abdulrahman Yunusa of Kaduna in the third minute put the Plateau team ahead.


Yau Ibrahim's fantastic strike gave the Kaduna side an equalizer in the 14th minute.


Two minutes later, Ibrahim scored the second goal to make it 2-1.


Two minutes before halftime, the entertaining Ibrahim scored his third in the 43rd minute to end the first half 3-1.


Upon resumption of the second half, Abubakar Aliyu scored the second goal for Plateau from close range in the 59th minute.


The Kaduna team dominated most of the second half, and it paid off when Ibrahim scored the fourth goal in the 77th minute through a free kick.


Speaking after the match, Musa Yahaya, the coach of Kaduna, commended his players for their superb performance.


He said that Ibrahim's aerial ability made him key in both areas, denying Plateau opportunities.


"He also made key contributions crossing and linking play from the flank," he said.


Nine states participated in the para-soccer competition: Kwara, Lagos, FCT, Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Plateau.


A total of 15 sporting events were featured in the second edition of the Para-Sports Games.
