The groundbreaking event, held at the Zen Archery Arena inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium, brought together top archers from various countries, competing across multiple disciplines including recurve, compound, and barebow. The tournament marked a historic step for Nigeria in establishing itself as a viable destination for global archery events.
Reflecting on the milestone, Oyeleke described the tournament as a turning point for archery in the country.
“This event is a dream come true, not just for me, but for everyone working to see archery grow in Nigeria. Hosting an international tournament on home soil is a major achievement, and a strong statement of intent,” he said.
Oyeleke also credited the Lagos State Sports Commission and other stakeholders for their support, emphasizing the role of such partnerships in achieving long-term sports development goals.
The tournament served not only as a competitive platform but also as an opportunity for local athletes to gain exposure to international standards and competition formats.
Looking ahead, Oyeleke reaffirmed Zen Archery’s commitment to developing the sport at all levels.
“We plan to make the Lagos International Open an annual event and continue investing in grassroots development. Our goal is to raise a generation of elite Nigerian archers who can compete and win on the world stage,” he added.
The success of the event has been widely praised within the local and international archery community and is expected to boost Nigeria’s chances of hosting future continental and global competitions.
