Lady Nkiru Agbogu, Captain of the Golf Section at the Enugu Sports Club, has said that the 10th Enugu Ladies Open Golf Championship is designed to showcase the talents of female golfers across Nigeria.
No fewer than 50 female golfers from various states are participating in the championship, which carries the theme “Fostering a Sense of Camaraderie with Golfing.” The event, which teed off on Wednesday, will conclude on Saturday.
Agbogu explained that the competition serves not only to promote women’s participation in golf but also to provide an avenue for networking, skill development, and unity among golfers.
She added that during the grand finale, 75 registered male golfers will also join as guest participants to promote inclusivity in the sport.
“Golf is a game for both men and women. We organize this tournament to showcase talent, improve skills, and build relationships within the golfing community,” Agbogu said.
She noted that participation is open to anyone who pays the subscription fee, and that the championship is held biennially due to limited funding.
According to her, the event is sponsored by corporate organizations and individuals who are passionate about supporting golf development in Nigeria.
Agbogu also revealed that prizes and trophies will be awarded to winners in various categories during the closing ceremony on Saturday.
