No fewer than 1,500 athletes have registered to participate in MTN Champs Season 2, which is being held in Jos, the capital of Plateau.

Emanoke Ogoro, the General Manager of Brand and Communications at MTN, disclosed this during a press conference in Jos.

She stated that the exercise aimed to discover talent, particularly among young people in the state.

The event will feature four age groups: under-14, under-17, under-20, and senior categories.

Ogoro explained that the participants were largely drawn from secondary schools in the state.

"MTN has been involved in sports for over two decades. Our goal is to put Nigeria on the world map; we will ensure that this happens because we have an abundance of talent to nurture. MTN stands for progress, and this is a vision we will not let die. So, 80 percent of the participants come from secondary schools in Plateau," she said.

Ogoro further explained that, aside from other prizes to be won by outstanding participants, the overall winner would earn a scholarship at the MTN Academy in Lagos.

Also speaking, Mrs. Rebacca Shanshit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Youths and Sports Development in Plateau, commended MTN for the initiative.

"We are delighted with this development; it will help our teeming youths to achieve their full potential in life. We are going to support this initiative, and we look forward to collaborating more with MTN," she said.

The exercise will last from Tuesday, April 23, to Friday, April 27.
