Onikeku Praises NCS Women’s Volleyball Team After CGC Premier League Triumph

Posted : 13 December 2025

Samuel Onikeku, head of sports at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has commended the exceptional performance of the NCS Women’s Volleyball Team after they secured the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League championship with three matches remaining.

Reflecting on the team’s remarkable season, Onikeku highlighted the role of deliberate restructuring and the introduction of younger talents in achieving early success. “We opened camp to refresh the team. We brought in younger players, and this is the first time that with three matches to go, we’ve already won the league,” he said.

“Last season, the women’s team claimed the CGC Volleyball League on the final day. I’m very proud of the team, the coordinators, the coaches, the managers, and the players. Going through the first phase unbeaten in 10 matches and achieving this milestone is truly special, especially following our victory in Ghana.”

Despite the early triumph, Onikeku emphasized that the team remains focused on higher goals, aiming to build a squad capable of excelling beyond domestic and regional competitions. “As we have always said, we want to do well, and we are still strengthening our team. We don’t want to be just national or regional champions. We believe Nigeria should be able to compete with the North Africans,” he stated.

He added that the team’s long-term development plan will begin to show more significant results next year as preparations intensify for major continental tournaments. With the league title already secured, the Nigeria Customs Women’s Volleyball Team is now setting its sights on consolidating domestic dominance while mounting a strong challenge on the African stage.
