Former Nigerian squash number one Moses Olubo is set to return home on Wednesday after completing an extraordinary motorcycle expedition spanning three continents and several challenging terrains.
Olubo, who is expected in Lagos after travelling aboard a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle, has undertaken a remarkable journey that took him from the United States through Canada, Iceland, Scandinavia and Western Europe before crossing the Sahara and navigating the rugged Fouta Jallon Highlands en route to Nigeria.
The former squash star is expected to be welcomed by friends, sports enthusiasts and supporters at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where a Meet and Greet has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26.
Organisers have described the journey as that of a “3-Continent Adventurer”, reflecting the scale of Olubo’s expedition and the physical and logistical challenges encountered along the route.
His return to Lagos has attracted considerable interest within the sporting community, although the exact arrival time remained uncertain due to difficulties encountered during his passage through Ghana.
Olubo was reportedly working on Tuesday to complete his exit from Ghana after encountering complications arising from the motorcycle’s registration outside the ECOWAS system.
With that hurdle expected to be resolved, the final leg of his journey from Ghana to Lagos is anticipated to be less demanding.
The Meet and Greet will provide an opportunity for Nigerians, particularly members of the sporting fraternity, to reconnect with the former squash star and celebrate an adventure that has taken him across some of the world’s most challenging routes.
For his friends and admirers, Olubo’s return represents more than a homecoming. It is a celebration of endurance, courage and a passion for exploration that has seen the former athlete take on an extraordinary challenge far beyond the squash court.
Organisers have appealed to Nigerians and sports enthusiasts to turn out at the National Stadium to give Olubo a memorable reception.
They also apologised for the short notice, explaining that the unpredictable nature of the expedition made it difficult to determine and announce his exact arrival time earlier.
