Ogunjobi Tips 2027 Africa School Games as Continental Talent Hub

Posted : 13 February 2026

Result-driven sports strategist Lanre Ogunjobi, and member of the 28-man Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Abuja 2027 Africa School Games, says the goal is to make the sporting event a continental talent hub, educational and commercial ecosystem.

The committee, formed last November, was inaugurated on the 10th of February, 2026, as Nigeria was unanimously selected to host the continental School Games following the successful conclusion of the inaugural edition in Algiers, the Algerian capital.

Lanre, the son of former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, late Taiwo Joseph Ogunjobi, transitioned from the League Management Company (LMC) Brand and Sponsorship Department to becoming the Technical Assistant on Strategy, Research, and Documentation to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), gave an insight into his role and that of the committee.

“The vision is to make the Africa School Games more than just a sports competition. We want it to become a strong African platform for discovering young talent, promoting education, and creating real business opportunities around sports.

“This plan is in line with the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), a forward-looking framework developed by my mentor, Mallam Shehu Dikko.

“Most importantly, we aim to attract solid private sector investment so the Games can grow into a truly world-class African sporting event.

“The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will work with full dedication and commitment to deliver a well-organised, exciting, and memorable tournament for everyone involved.”

At the inaugural edition, Nigeria secured third place at the 2025 Africa School Games in Algeria, earning a total of 25 medals (six gold, 10 silver, and nine bronze), finishing behind host nation Algeria and Egypt, who claimed first and second place, respectively.
