OGSRA collaborates with NRFF to host coaching, medical course

Posted : 05 April 2026

The Ogun State Rugby Association, in partnership with the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), is set to host a three-day Rugby Coaching and Medical Course in Abeokuta as part of efforts to boost grassroots development.

Scheduled for April 23 to 25, 2026, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, the programme is aimed at building local capacity and expanding participation in the sport across Ogun State and beyond.

The course will serve as a preparatory pathway for Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching and Medical certifications, while also supporting educator development and quality assurance ahead of anticipated World Rugby engagements later in the year.

Participants are required to have completed key World Rugby introductory modules, including Rugby Ready, Safeguarding, and basic coaching and medical courses.

The training will focus on practical knowledge in player safety, coaching techniques, and athlete management.

The initiative underscores a broader strategy to develop competent local educators and practitioners, critical to the sustainable growth of rugby in Nigeria.

The programme will also align with the 3rd edition of the Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby 7s Tournament, providing a unique blend of learning and competition.

This collaborative initiative marks a significant step toward professionalizing rugby officiating and coaching within the region. By integrating educational certification with active competition, the NRFF and OGSRA are ensuring a sustainable future for the sport. These efforts will empower local practitioners to meet international standards while fostering a safer environment for emerging athletes.
