The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has reinforced its commitment to developing elite athletes by sponsoring four wrestlers to compete at the 3rd Ranking Series tournament in Mongolia.
The quartet of Genesis Mercy Miesinnei (50kg), Ogunsanya Christianah Tolulope (53kg), Kolawole Esther Omolayo (62kg), and Ojo Damola Hannah (76kg) departed Nigeria on Monday night aboard Turkish Airlines to represent the country at the prestigious global event.
The Ranking Series tournament provides wrestlers with a valuable opportunity to earn ranking points, improve their positions on the world standings, and secure favourable seeding ahead of major international championships, including the World Championships.
Speaking before the team's departure, delegation leader and national women's wrestling coach, Akuh Purity, praised the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for funding the team's participation and ensuring all logistics were adequately covered.
According to Purity, the federation's leadership has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to the growth of wrestling and the welfare of athletes.
"I want to, on behalf of the athletes and the entire wrestling community, express our profound appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his unwavering support, dedication and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian wrestlers," Purity said.
"His contribution continues to create opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level and showcase Nigeria's talent on the global stage."
Purity noted that participation in the Mongolia event would be vital in the wrestlers' quest to strengthen their international rankings and boost their chances of securing top seeds for future competitions.
She assured the federation's leadership that the athletes were motivated to deliver impressive performances and make the country proud.
"Thank you very much, sir, for your invaluable investment in our national wrestling team and for your immense contribution to the development of wrestling in Nigeria," she added.
"We look forward to outstanding performances that will make the nation proud."
This strategic deployment underscores the intentional roadmap layout by the federation to keep Nigeria at the forefront of global wrestling. By consistently exposing top talents to high-stakes international ranking events, the leadership ensures the wrestlers remain competitive against elite opponents. The outcome of this campaign in Mongolia will likely dictate the country's tactical advantages and positioning heading into the next World Championships.
