The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has confirmed that the 2026 Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League will begin on June 13 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday, NVBF President Musa Nimrod said preparations were on course for another successful edition of the country's top-flight volleyball competition, which continues to enjoy the backing of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Nimrod praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his unwavering commitment to sports development, noting that the partnership between the federation and the NCS has played a key role in the growth of volleyball across Nigeria.
According to him, the 2026 edition marks the third consecutive year of Customs' sponsorship of the league, a collaboration he described as instrumental in promoting youth development and creating opportunities for athletes.
"The support from the Nigeria Customs Service has been remarkable. We appreciate the Comptroller-General and his management team for their dedication to volleyball and sports development in general," he said.
Nimrod expressed optimism that this year's sponsorship would surpass previous editions, citing Adeniyi's passion for sports and athlete welfare.
He added that the federation had also remained committed to ensuring the success of the partnership through effective planning and programme implementation.
As part of its developmental initiatives, the federation is currently staging the first phase of the Beach Volleyball Tour in Kaduna from June 5 to June 12 ahead of the league opener.
The 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League will feature 26 clubs, made up of 13 men's and 13 women's teams.
Among the newly promoted teams are VIP Partners Volleyball Club, Nigeria Fire Service Volleyball Club, and Excelsior Volleyball Club in the women's category, while Defence Spikers Volleyball Club, Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club, and Life Camp Volleyball Club secured promotion in the men's division.
The competition will run from June 13 to June 28, with teams battling for honours in what is expected to be another highly competitive season.
The upcoming tournament highlights the continuous growth of Nigerian volleyball through vital corporate and institutional collaborations. With the integration of newly promoted clubs and preparatory tours already underway, stakeholders anticipate a major boost in domestic talent development and high-level sportsmanship.
