NSSF Takes Shooting Sport Digital with New National Portal

Posted : 08 October 2026

The Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) has taken a major step towards modernising the administration of shooting sport with the launch of its National Integrated Shooting Sport Portal.

The digital platform was unveiled in Abuja during the Army War College Nigeria Course 10 Pistol and Rifle Precision Shooting Competition at the 1212 Polo Turf Club Shooting Range, Gwarimpa.

The initiative is designed to create a more coordinated structure for the registration, affiliation, accreditation and management of shooting activities across Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, NSSF President, Commodore Mohammed Sagir Shettima, represented by the Federation’s 2nd Vice President, Abubakar Aliyu, described the portal as a significant milestone in efforts to digitalise and broaden participation in the sport.

Shettima urged organisations, clubs, athletes and individuals interested in shooting sport to register through the Federation’s official website and formally become part of the shooting community.

He stressed that shooting sport is a globally recognised competitive discipline, requiring Nigeria to strengthen its administrative and participation structures to meet international standards.

Chief Executive Officer of Obetek Technologies Limited, the NSSF’s technology partner, Abdultalib Musa, said the portal would provide a centralised platform for key activities within the sport.

According to Musa, the system will support registration, affiliation, accreditation, capacity building and competition management while improving coordination among stakeholders.

NSSF ICT representative, Jovita Nwanaforo, conducted the technical presentation of the platform, which was also streamed live to an international audience.

The portal launch coincided with the Army War College Nigeria shooting competition, which attracted participants from the military, para-military organisations, affiliated bodies, the media and other sectors.

Military personnel from South Africa and other African countries also participated in the activities, further giving the event an international dimension.

Commandants of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and Army War College Nigeria, Major General UM Alkali, attended the twin events and took part in selected novelty shooting activities involving pistol and rifle disciplines.

Participants competed in different shooting positions and tactical sequences, including prone, kneeling and standing positions, using .22-calibre pistol and rifle firearms.

The competition provided an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their precision, discipline and technical ability while promoting greater interaction among shooting stakeholders.

Before the activities commenced, Major General Alkali led participants in observing a minute of silence in honour of the victims of the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft accident in Ondo State.

The gesture reflected the solemn national mood following the tragedy, which claimed the lives of all passengers aboard the aircraft.

The launch of the NSSF portal is expected to provide the Federation with a stronger administrative framework as it seeks to expand the sport, improve stakeholder coordination and create more opportunities for athletes across Nigeria.

With the digital platform now in place, the NSSF will be hoping to use technology to build a more accessible, transparent and internationally aligned shooting sport structure in the country.
