The chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, disclosed that the commission had secured presidential approval to establish a sports infrastructure development bond. The initiative aims to raise more than ₦1 trillion through the capital market to support facility development and attract private-sector investment.
Dikko also outlined broader economic targets under the commission’s Renewed Hope Initiative for the Nigerian Sports Economy. These include creating at least two million jobs and increasing sports’ contribution to Nigeria’s gross domestic product to three per cent.
He said the commission had identified more than 28,000 jobs linked to the sports sector, including direct, indirect and induced employment. Dikko also reported that Nigerian athletes won 375 medals across international competitions in 2025, highlighting the country’s sporting potential.
Newly inaugurated federation leaders were urged to support the commission’s ambitions through grassroots development, improved administration, infrastructure investment and stronger pathways for athletes.
