NSC Inaugurates Electoral Committee for Sports Federation Elections

Posted : 09 September 2025

The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has inaugurated the electoral committee responsible for conducting the upcoming national sports federations’ elections.

The newly formed committee has been tasked with ensuring a transparent and hitch-free process for elections into 20 national sports federations. These include Aquatics, Chess, Handball, Golf, Karate, Darts, Fives, Tennis, Wrestling, Wushu Kung Fu, Scrabble, Hockey, Badminton, Boxing, Taekwondo, Squash Rackets, Traditional Sports, Rugby, Kickboxing, and Deaf Sports.

Speaking at the inauguration, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a credible election process.

“We have succeeded in assembling a very balanced and compact team for this assignment because we want to set a new standard for federation elections, anchored on integrity and transparency,” he stated.

He emphasized that the commission, under the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has no partisan interests and is committed only to building a sustainable sports economy. “We will not interfere in the process but will provide guidance to ensure the right people, who understand our vision, are elected,” Dikko added.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, echoed the chairman’s optimism, stressing that the commission had been meticulous in putting together the electoral team. “We wanted an astute team capable of managing the challenges that come with elections of this scale, and that is exactly what we have achieved,” he said.

The committee is chaired by veteran sports administrator Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye, who assured that his team would uphold the commission’s guidelines to deliver credible elections. “We will work hard to conduct elections that the Commission and Nigerians will be proud of,” he affirmed.

Other members of the electoral committee include Vice Chairman Barrister Samson Ebomhe, Lawal Waheed, Hon. Tunde Popoola, Barrister Maryam Orotope Paul, Farouk Yelima, and Secretary Rita Mosindi.
