The National Sports Commission (NSC) has redeployed General Secretaries across several national sports federations in a move aimed at improving administrative efficiency and strengthening sports development in Nigeria.
Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, announced the changes during a meeting with federation secretaries in Abuja, describing the exercise as a strategic redeployment rather than a disciplinary measure.
Olopade said the decision reflected the confidence he and NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko had in the professional competence of the secretaries and their contributions to sports development.
He commended them for their commitment, professionalism, and personal sacrifices, noting their continued support for the Commission since the current leadership assumed office.
“Let me be clear that no secretary is being removed because he or she has been sacked. They are only being posted to another federation to carry out another assignment.
“This is how much the Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and I believe in all our secretaries and their professional expertise,” Olopade said.
He described the secretaries as central to the Commission’s operations, stressing that their administrative responsibilities were critical to achieving its regulatory and developmental objectives.
“I have always said that the secretaries are the lifeline of our sports.
“They play a very critical role in the fulfilment of our mandate at the NSC to statutorily regulate and develop sports in the country, in line with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” he added.
Under the new arrangement, Bunmi Oluode becomes Secretary-General of the Athletics Federation, while former athletics secretary Israel Inwang moves to the Padel Federation.
Rita Mosindi has been appointed Acting Secretary-General of the Basketball Federation, with former secretary Amina Amanchi redeployed to the Rowing Federation.
Tosin Samuel takes over as Secretary-General of the Shooting Federation, while Tinuoso Dolapo assumes the same position at the Karate Federation.
Javan Bennard has been assigned to the Fencing Federation, while Dorothy Okpo becomes Secretary-General of the Arm Wrestling Federation.
The Commission said the reshuffle forms part of its broader strategy to deploy professional expertise where it can deliver the greatest impact, improve administrative capacity, and enhance the operational effectiveness of national sports federations.
The initiative also aligns with the NSC’s commitment to strengthening sports governance and advancing the Renewed Hope agenda for sports development.
