NSC Praises Team Nigeria After Historic Double Gold At African Flag Football Championship

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has highly praised Team Nigeria for an outstanding performance at the concluded NFL Flag American Football African Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. The dominant Nigerian delegation safely retained their status as a major continental powerhouse by winning two gold medals and one silver medal. The brilliant outing has provided a massive morale boost for the country.

Nigeria completely dominated the competition by securing ultimate victories in both youth and female categories. The exceptional women’s national team successfully defended their African title to claim gold. Meanwhile, the highly talented Under-13 mixed team matched that success by winning their respective division. The senior men’s team narrowly missed out on a clean sweep, settling for a silver medal after a tough loss to Egypt in the final.

NSC Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade expressed immense satisfaction with the team's rapid developmental progress. The sports boss also showered praise on the leadership of the Nigerian Federation of American Football (NFAF). He commended the federation’s President, Babajide Akeredolu, and the executive board for their tireless efforts in developing grassroots talent. Olopade emphasized that Nigeria has incredible sporting quality that simply needs structured support to achieve consistent global success.

Looking forward, the commission urged the athletes to stay focused on upcoming international engagements. Olopade charged the federation to use their recent success in Kenya as a vital training springboard. The national teams are currently fine-tuning their strategies as preparations intensify for the prestigious IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Germany later this year.

The NSC officially reaffirmed its absolute commitment to supporting the teams during their world campaign. Flag football continues to see rapid growth globally as it prepares for its formal Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
