The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a 13-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the first West African Para Games (Zones A and B), scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from November 26 to December 4.
This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to make Nigeria a preferred destination for international sporting competitions, as outlined in the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).
In collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), the NSC appointed Achakpo Victor as the chairman of the LOC, tasked with ensuring the successful organisation and smooth execution of the Games.
The Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining high organisational standards in every event it hosts. He expressed optimism that the forthcoming Para Games would further strengthen Nigeria’s reputation for excellence in sports administration.
“We have recorded commendable successes in several international events hosted this year, including the CAA U18/U20 Athletics Championship in Abeokuta, the National Sports Festival, and other international competitions. This event will be no exception,” Olopade stated.
He further praised the collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, acknowledging the significant contribution of its President, Sunday Odebode, in securing hosting rights for Nigeria.
“We are confident that all para-athletes from across the West African region will have a memorable and enjoyable experience in Abeokuta and Nigeria at large,” the DG emphasized.
Members of the Local Organising Committee include Babatunde Adeluola, Adesiyan Abimbola, Musa Mustapha, Fayigbe Olubusiyi, and Kelechi Onwudiwe. Other members are Michael Obasi, Deji Aladegbemi, Muhammed Amin Mahmud, Joy Mayaki, Henrietta Ehiobor, and Hauwa Sulaibu, while Suleiman Isah will serve as Secretary of the Committee.
