The National Sports Commission (NSC) has called for unity within the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) after affirming Chukwudi Elekwachi Dimkpa as the duly recognised President of the federation.
The Commission said its decision reflects its commitment to fairness, equity, and due process in the administration of sports federations, while urging all members of the karate community to put aside their differences and work together for the growth of the sport.
Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, appealed to stakeholders to embrace reconciliation, peace, and harmony, stressing that the federation can only make meaningful progress through collective efforts.
Olopade also advised the newly affirmed President to maintain an open-door policy and collaborate closely with athletes, coaches, referees, officials, and other stakeholders in repositioning Nigerian karate for greater success at both national and international levels.
Responding to the Commission's decision, Dimkpa expressed appreciation to NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade for what he described as their commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law throughout the process.
According to him, the affirmation provides the federation with an opportunity to move beyond leadership issues and concentrate on developing karate across the country.
"There is no winner and no loser today. The true winner is Nigerian karate," Dimkpa said, extending an olive branch to all members of the karate community.
He pledged to lead an inclusive administration built on transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect, assuring stakeholders that everyone would have a role in advancing the federation.
The KFN President added that his administration would prioritise athlete development, institutional strengthening, support for coaches and referees, grassroots expansion, and improved international competitiveness, insisting that its success would ultimately be measured by the progress made in transforming the federation and creating lasting opportunities for the sport.
With the leadership issue now settled, attention is expected to shift toward strengthening the federation and promoting the development of karate across Nigeria. The NSC and KFN leadership remain optimistic that unity and collaboration will pave the way for sustained growth and improved performances on the international stage.
