NRFF Partners with Ekiti to Host Rugby Clinic, Boost Grassroots Development

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), in its effort to expand rugby across the country, has partnered with the Ekiti State Sports Commission to host a Rugby Clinic aimed at strengthening grassroots development in the region.

The program was led by World Rugby–certified Educator and Nigeria Rugby Development Officer, Wuraola Hussain, and brought together key stakeholders dedicated to advancing youth sports in the state.

The clinic saw strong participation from game teachers and primary and secondary school game prefects, who were eager to enhance their knowledge of rugby. Participants received both practical and theoretical training on rugby fundamentals, safety principles, game management, and inclusive coaching techniques suitable for school environments.

NRFF President Ademola Are commended the Ekiti State Sports Commission for hosting such a significant program, highlighting its importance for the long-term growth of rugby in the state.

The Commissioner for the Ekiti State Sports Commission, Olusola Osetoba, described the initiative as crucial for the personal development of students and teachers, emphasizing the state’s commitment to programs that empower youth to meet global standards.

Hussain underlined the need to establish a strong foundation for rugby in schools, stressing that empowering teachers and student leaders is essential for sustainable growth. She noted that the clinic aligns with a nationwide effort to make rugby safe, accessible, and development-focused for young athletes.

Acting General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Commission, Lawrence Ogundele Mayowa, highlighted the state government’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for youth to thrive. He added that similar initiatives would benefit other sports in the long term.

The Ekiti Rugby Clinic marks a major milestone in NRFF’s mission to nurture future talent, promote discipline, and foster positive youth engagement through rugby.
