Mark Allen overcame fellow Antrim player Jordan Brown 5-2 in the quarter-finals of the Northern Ireland Open at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall. The world number eight faced a challenging match but managed to secure victory, setting up a semi-final clash against England’s Judd Trump on Saturday.
Allen started strongly, opening the scoring with a 101 break in the first frame. Brown responded emphatically, leveling the match with a 131 break in the second. The third frame turned into a tactical contest, but Allen managed to edge it and extended his advantage in the fourth.
Brown fought back with a 120 break in the fifth frame, yet Allen regained control to win the remaining frames and claim his place in the semi-finals.
In the other quarter-final, Judd Trump defeated John Higgins 5-2, extending his unbeaten streak against Higgins in ranking events to thirteen. Trump, the world number one, fell behind initially but responded with breaks of 93 and 82 to take the lead.
Higgins briefly drew level, but Trump dominated the later frames with scores of 72, 72, and 121 to secure his first semi-final appearance of the season.
Meanwhile, England’s Jack Lisowski and China’s Zhou Yuelong also advanced to the semi-finals. Lisowski defeated defending champion Kyren Wilson 5-3, producing breaks of 63, 68, 104, and 76 in a competitive match.
Zhou Yuelong staged a remarkable comeback against Tom Ford, winning 5-4 after recovering from a 53-point deficit in the deciding frame with a 76 break. Their semi-final is scheduled for Saturday.
