Nigerian inline skater and youth advocate, Sylvester Phadion, is set to attempt two Guinness World Records on December 7 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Phadion announced this in Abuja, explaining that the record attempts will be held in a designated concourse area of the airport to commemorate International Civil Aviation Day. He plans to attempt the fastest snake sideways slalom on 500 cones in inline skates, a brand-new category under Guinness World Records, and also aims to break the existing record for the fastest 20-cone slalom in inline skates.
According to Phadion, the record-breaking challenge goes beyond personal ambition—it is part of his broader mission to promote community development and national transformation. Through the event, he hopes to raise awareness and funds for his hometown community, which lacks essential amenities such as clean water, healthcare, and youth development opportunities.
“My people have no access to clean water, healthcare, or youth opportunities. Skating has given me a voice, and now I’m using it to give my community hope,” Phadion said. “In a place where despair once prevailed, skating became my refuge. While others found escape in alcohol or drugs, I found freedom on wheels.”
Phadion praised the Unity Skaters Club of Nigeria, which has over 10 million members nationwide, for promoting positive change and creating opportunities for Nigerian youth. The club has organized several impactful events, including Discovery Contests Abuja (2015), Skating King of the Street (2016), Skatember Unilorin (2017), Skate-A-Thon Calabar (2024), and the Fresh Air Skating Championship Yola (October 2025), which hosted more than 800 skaters from 33 states.
Recognized both locally and internationally, Phadion has received commendations from the Adamawa State Government for his contributions to youth empowerment and peacebuilding. His international exposure includes training in South Korea, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, where he studied global sports systems and returned home to apply his knowledge.
Phadion emphasized that his Guinness World Records attempt is not merely for fame but also serves as a fundraising campaign to tackle pressing community needs while inspiring young Nigerians to pursue their passions.
