Team Nigeria triumphed over Team Egypt with a 2–0 victory (21-17, 21-15) to secure the gold medal in the women’s beach volleyball event at the African Youth Games in Angola on Sunday, December 14.
Engineer Musa Nimrod, President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF) and President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, lauded the players for their exceptional performance, noting that their victory brings pride to the nation. He emphasized that the gold medal compensates for Nigeria’s absence from the last two World Championships in Qatar and Australia.
Nimrod highlighted Nigeria’s growing prominence in African beach volleyball, attributing the success to the dedication and skill of the women’s team. He reiterated the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission’s goal of qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, following second-place finishes in the last two qualification campaigns.
“I want to congratulate the players for making Nigeria proud at the African Youth Games in Angola. Pamela Bawa and Joy Lawrences have written Nigeria’s name in gold,” Nimrod said. “They missed two World Championships, but this medal is a testament to their hard work and the Federation’s efforts. I also commend coach John Iwerima for his excellent guidance.”
The NVF President also praised the National Sports Commission (NSC) for facilitating Nigeria’s participation in the African Youth Games. He expressed confidence that beach volleyball will continue to bring accolades to Nigeria at both continental and global competitions.
