Nigeria wins 14 medals at 2026 Uganda Para Badminton International Championship

Posted : 13 July 2026

Nigeria's Para Badminton team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Uganda Para Badminton International Championship, returning home with an impressive haul of 14 medals, including nine gold and five silver, at the tournament held from July 7 to 12.

The remarkable outing has further strengthened Nigeria's reputation as one of Africa's leading para badminton nations and boosted the country's preparations for future continental and global competitions.

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, praised the athletes for their resilience and consistency, saying the team's success reflects the federation's commitment to developing para badminton in the country.

"Our para badminton athletes have once again shown that Nigeria can depend on them to win medals and make the country proud," Orbih said.

"Our target is the Paralympic Games. We want to qualify as many athletes as possible and build on the achievements of Eniola Bolaji. This board will continue to provide the necessary support for the athletes to excel."

Orbih also acknowledged the contributions of the Abia State Government, the Bayelsa State Government, and the Police College Badminton Club, Lagos, for supporting the athletes' participation at the championship.

He noted that the federation remains open to more partnerships aimed at sustaining the growth of para badminton in Nigeria.

On the court, Lyka Brown emerged as one of Nigeria's standout performers, winning the WH1 Women's Singles title before partnering Chukwuemeka Ijeoma Gift to clinch gold in the WH1 & WH2 Women's Doubles.

Chukwuemeka also captured gold in the WH2 Women's Singles, while Emmanuel Ifeanacho Ohaeri dominated the WH2 Men's Singles and teamed up with Brown to win gold in the WH1 & WH2 Mixed Doubles.

Ohaeri added a silver medal in the WH1 & WH2 Men's Doubles alongside Ekeoma Samuel, who also secured silver in the WH1 Men's Singles and another silver with Chukwuemeka in the WH1 & WH2 Mixed Doubles.

Nigeria also excelled in the standing events, with Obinna Precious Nwosu claiming gold in the SL3 Men's Singles, while Eze Sunday Chukwuebuka finished with silver in the same category.

Nnanna Jeremiah Chigozie won the SL4 Men's Singles title and later combined with Eze to secure gold in the SL3 & SU5 Men's Doubles.

In the SU5 category, Eneojo Elijah Agada captured gold in the Men's Singles before partnering Obinna Precious Nwosu to win silver in the SL3–SU5 Men's Doubles.

The impressive medal haul underlines Nigeria's growing strength in para badminton and provides renewed confidence as the federation intensifies preparations for upcoming qualification events ahead of the Paralympic Games. The strong performance in Uganda also highlights the depth of talent within Nigeria's para badminton programme and reinforces the federation's ambition of securing more qualification spots for the Paralympic Games.
