Nigeria U-18 Boys Face Early Setback Against Tunisia in Abidjan

Nigeria’s U-18 Men’s Handball team surrendered a first-half lead as Tunisia rallied to secure a 32–23 victory in their opening Group B match at the 22nd Africa Men’s Youth Handball Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian team, coached by Abdulhakim Yakubu, made a bright start to the encounter despite initially falling behind. They showed composure to turn the game around and take a 15–14 advantage into the half-time break.

Tunisia returned from the interval with greater intensity and gradually took control of the contest, capitalising on Nigeria’s turnovers and moments of indecision.

The North Africans outscored Nigeria in the second half to overturn the deficit and establish a nine-goal winning margin at the final whistle.

The defeat leaves Nigeria needing positive results in their remaining Group B fixtures against Algeria and Madagascar to strengthen their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

The Nigerian youngsters will now seek to regroup and address the lapses that proved costly against Tunisia as their championship campaign continues.
