Ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria’s Under-19 Women’s Cricket team is set to face Pakistan and Scotland in warm-up matches.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) stated that the matches are designed by the ICC to prepare teams ahead of the World Cup, which begins on Saturday in Malaysia.
Nigeria, which qualified as Africa’s sole representative in October 2024, will face its Pakistani counterparts on Monday before meeting Scotland on Wednesday.
The World Cup officially kicks off on Saturday with Nigeria playing against Samoa in Group C, followed by a match with New Zealand two days later and another against South Africa on January 22.
South Africa gained automatic qualification for the tournament based on its ICC rankings.
Meanwhile, Uyi Akpata, the president of the NCF, said the event is a milestone for the country and expressed optimism that the girls would rise to the occasion during the World Cup.
“The girls have participated in different camp sessions since they qualified in October, with the last one concluding last weekend in India before they finally head to Malaysia,” Akpata noted.
“I believe these exposures will come together to enhance their performance,” Akpata added.
Akpata also commended the National Sports Commission for their support in ensuring the success of the World Cup preparations.
The 16-nation tournament will run from January 18 to February 2, 2025.
