Nigeria Targets Double Finals as ITTF Africa Youth Championships Reach Last Four

As the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships enter the semifinal stage in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria will be chasing places in two key team finals, with its U-19 boys and girls in action on Wednesday.

The championship, being held at the Borteyman Sports Complex, has reached its decisive phase after an action-packed quarterfinal round that saw several title contenders book their places in the last four.

Nigeria's U-19 boys produced one of the standout performances of the tournament by defeating hosts Ghana 3-0 to silence the home crowd and set up a semifinal clash against Tunisia.

The tie began dramatically as Quadri Atunwon fought back from two games down to defeat Ghana's Israel Aklie 3-2, handing Nigeria an early advantage.

Matthew Fabunmi and Sultan Agunbiade then sealed the victory with convincing straight-game wins over their respective opponents.

Nigeria will now take on Tunisia for a place in the final, while Egypt and Algeria will battle in the other semifinal after overcoming Uganda and South Africa, respectively.

In the U-19 girls' competition, Nigeria will square up against Algeria in another crucial semifinal, while defending champions Egypt face Uganda for the second final ticket.

The U-15 girls' category will also feature mouth-watering semifinal encounters as Nigeria take on top seeds Egypt, while holders Algeria face Tunisia.

The semifinal matches are expected to rekindle some of Africa's biggest table tennis rivalries as teams battle for places in the championship finals and the opportunity to claim continental honours.

Nigeria's young stars will be aiming to maintain their impressive momentum and secure places in the finals as they continue their pursuit of continental success at the championships.
