Nigeria Target World Cup Qualifying Breakthrough at ICC U19 Africa Division 2 Tournament

Nigeria's U19 cricket team will compete against five other African nations in Kigali, Rwanda, as they seek to keep their ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup qualification hopes alive at the Africa Qualifier Division 2 tournament.

The week-long tournament, scheduled for Aug. 9 to 15, will feature hosts Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Nigeria at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium and the RP-Kigali Oval.

The competition will be played in a round-robin format, with every match carrying crucial points as teams vie for a place in the next stage of the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup qualifying pathway.

Nigeria will be looking to build on the country's growing reputation in youth cricket and secure positive results against some of the continent's emerging cricket nations.

One of the tournament's most anticipated fixtures will see Nigeria take on hosts Rwanda on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Gahanga Main Oval in a match expected to have significant implications for qualification.

The hosts will open their campaign against Mozambique on Aug. 9 before facing Sierra Leone the following day.

Following a rest day, Rwanda will meet Nigeria on Aug. 12, Ghana on Aug. 13, and wrap up their campaign against regional rivals Uganda on Aug. 15.

The Kigali tournament represents another important milestone for Nigeria's youth cricket programme as the team continues its pursuit of a place at the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup.

The tournament also highlights Rwanda's growing stature as a cricket destination in Africa, coming less than two months after the successful hosting of the Kwibuka Women's T20I Tournament, further strengthening the country's reputation for staging major ICC events.

As the qualification campaign unfolds, Nigeria will be aiming to produce consistent performances throughout the tournament to secure progression to the next stage. A strong showing in Kigali would further underline the country's steady development in youth cricket on the African continent.
