Nigeria Sweep Past Libya to Reach U-18 African Volleyball Championship Semi-Finals

Nigeria's U-18 boys volleyball team booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 African U-18 Boys Volleyball Championship after an emphatic straight-sets victory over Libya in Alexandria, Egypt. The young Nigerians produced another dominant display to win 25-8, 25-14, 25-16 at the Pioneer Club.

Nigeria took control from the opening set with powerful attacking play, disciplined defending, and accurate serving. Libya struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of the West Africans, who raced through the first set by a convincing 25-8 margin before extending their advantage in the second and third sets.

The quarter-final victory continued Nigeria's impressive campaign at the continental tournament. The team had already shown its quality during the group stage, including a commanding 3-0 win over Morocco, and carried that momentum into the knockout rounds with another clinical performance.

Nigeria rarely allowed Libya to settle into the contest. Their consistent serving forced errors, while their attacking combinations repeatedly broke through the Libyan defense. The disciplined display ensured there was never any real threat of a comeback as Nigeria comfortably closed out the match in three sets.

The victory sends Nigeria into the last four, where they will face Cameroon in a highly anticipated semi-final. Cameroon reached the semi-finals after progressing from the opposite quarter-final, setting up a battle for a place in the championship match.

The 2026 African U-18 Boys Volleyball Championship, organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), is being held in Alexandria from July 20 to July 30. Fourteen national teams are competing for the continental title and valuable international ranking points.

Nigeria will head into the semi-finals full of confidence after producing one of the tournament's most convincing quarter-final performances. Another victory over Cameroon would earn the team a place in the final and move them within one win of lifting the African U-18 championship.
