The Nigeria Cricket Federation has officially unveiled the franchise teams, captains, and coaching personnel for the maiden edition of the Nigeria Super League, billed to hold from May 16 to May 31 at the TBS Cricket Oval.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, NCF President Uyi Akpata described the tournament as a landmark initiative aimed at transforming domestic cricket and producing future stars for the country.
According to Akpata, the league is designed to bridge grassroots development with opportunities for players to progress to national and international levels.
“The Nigeria Super League is not just another tournament. It is a platform built to inspire the next generation, sharpen elite talent, and position Nigerian cricket for greater international success,” he said.
He explained that the professionally organised franchise competition would expose players to high-level contests, improve technical standards, and deepen fan engagement across the country.
Six franchises will compete in the historic tournament: Central Eagles, Eastern Elephants, Middle-Belt Tigers, Northern Lions, Southern Sharks, and Western Dolphins.
The competition, themed “One Dream. One League. Endless Opportunities,” will be played in a round-robin format, with matches scheduled daily in morning and afternoon sessions.
Group stage fixtures are expected to run until May 27 before the knockout rounds begin, while the grand finale has been fixed for May 30.
Akpata also assured supporters that every match would be accessible both physically at the stadium and online via the federation’s YouTube platform.
“Fans across Nigeria can experience every moment live at the stadium and on our YouTube channel,” he added.
The Nigeria Super League represents a significant step forward in the professionalization of the sport within the region. By providing a structured platform for elite competition, the NCF aims to solidify the foundation for long-term athletic growth and international competitiveness.
