Nigeria Showcases Hospitality as Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Qualifiers Serve Off in Badagry

Posted : 05 July 2026

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of beach volleyball as the 2026 African Nations Cup Beach Volleyball Zone 3 Qualifiers got underway in Badagry, Lagos State, with six West African countries competing for qualification.

President of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Beach Volleyball Commission, Engineer Musa Nimrod, welcomed athletes, officials, and delegates to the five-day championship, describing the event as another significant step in advancing the sport across the region.

Nimrod said hosting the competition reflects Nigeria's growing capacity to stage major volleyball events while providing valuable competitive opportunities for players ahead of the Beach Volleyball World Championship in the Netherlands.

According to him, the tournament offers participating teams the chance to test their preparedness against quality opposition in a conducive and well-organised environment.

"We are delighted to host this championship in Nigeria. It is an important competition because it provides our players with quality competitive matches ahead of the World Championship in the Netherlands.

"We are also committed to ensuring that all participating teams enjoy a memorable experience in Badagry," Nimrod said.

He added that beyond the competition, the event highlights Nigeria's hospitality and supports the broader vision of promoting beach volleyball development across Africa.

Nimrod also encouraged all teams to compete with the spirit of friendship, fair play, and sportsmanship while taking time to appreciate the rich cultural heritage and scenic coastline of Badagry.

The championship, which runs from July 3 to 7, features men's and women's events involving six countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, and Liberia.

The Zone 3 qualifiers provide another opportunity for West African nations to strengthen regional competition while pursuing continental qualification. For Nigeria, the tournament also reinforces its commitment to hosting international sporting events and advancing the growth of beach volleyball across Africa.
