Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation Partners with Security Agencies for Olympic Success

The Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) has secured strong institutional backing from major security agencies. The Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and Nigerian Air Force have all pledged their support. This partnership aims to professionalise shooting sports across the country. It also positions Nigerian athletes for major international success in future global competitions.

NSSF President Commodore Mohammed Shettima confirmed the Inspector-General of Police has accepted the role of Grand Patron. The police force will actively assist the federation with crucial administrative regulations. They will manage firearm licensing, member vetting, and strict regulatory compliance. This collaboration ensures that all federation activities remain safe and legally sound.

To boost safety and public confidence, the NSSF is introducing strict new membership requirements. All prospective members must now undergo a mandatory psychiatric evaluation. They must also verify their National Identity Number through the National Identity Management Commission. Finally, candidates must clear a thorough police background check before gaining admission.

Civilian competitions will feature strictly approved sporting firearms. Authorised weapons are limited to 12-gauge shotguns, .22 calibre rifles, and standard air rifles. Meanwhile, the military has fully embraced this new sporting vision. The Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff have approved dedicated internal shooting teams.

The federation is aiming for ultimate glory on the international stage. Advanced sponsorship talks are currently underway with a leading global firearms manufacturer. This funding will support Nigeria’s intense preparations for future Olympic tournaments. Shettima stated that the ultimate goal is to win Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medal in shooting.

Grassroots development is another major focus for the federation's long-term growth. Shooting sports will officially debut at the upcoming Nigerian University Games Association competition. The sport will subsequently expand into secondary schools nationwide to discover young talent. This structure aims to build strong institutional credibility for civilian shooters across Nigeria.
