Nigeria Settle for Eighth After Ghana Defeat at African Volleyball Championship

Nigeria’s campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Championship ended with an eighth-place finish after Ghana swept them 3-0 in the seventh-place classification match in Tunis, Tunisia.

The Black Stars produced a controlled display to close their campaign on a winning note, overcoming Nigeria 25-22, 27-25, 25-16 across the three sets.

Nigeria struggled to convert crucial moments, particularly in the closely contested second set, which Ghana eventually edged 27-25 before pulling away in the third.

The defeat was Nigeria’s second setback in the classification phase after they previously lost to Rwanda, leaving the team without a victory in their final placement matches.

Ghana’s victory earned them seventh place in the continental championship, while Nigeria finished eighth.

The result brings Nigeria’s campaign in Tunis to an end and provides the team with an opportunity to assess its performance as preparations begin for upcoming international competitions.

With the focus now shifting beyond the championship, Nigeria will seek to build on the experience gained in Tunisia and strengthen the team ahead of future continental assignments.
