Nigeria’s women’s cricket team has set its sights on clinching the title at the ongoing Fifth Women’s Invitational T20I tournament, as players across participating nations continue to praise the competition for its developmental impact.
The tournament, staged at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos, is held in honor of the late Patricia Kambarami, former ICC Africa Regional Development Manager and Titans Chief Operating Officer.
Speaking after matches, Nigeria captain Lucky Piety expressed confidence in her team’s ambition while highlighting the broader benefits of the tournament.
“Our goal is to win and make the country proud again, just like the U-19 team did,” she said. “But we understand the level of competition here, so we are approaching it one game at a time.”
She noted that beyond the quest for silverware, the competition has provided a valuable platform for players to gain experience and improve their game.
South Africa’s Filander Jae-Leigh also shared her enthusiasm, describing the tournament as both competitive and culturally enriching.
“It’s been a great experience so far. We’re enjoying being in Nigeria and learning about the culture,” she said. “Our focus is to stay disciplined with our game plans and push to finish strongly.”
For Zimbabwe’s Bethei Zinyama, the tournament represents an opportunity for growth and exposure on the international stage.
“We’re learning a lot from each other and from other teams. It’s exciting and very helpful for our development,” she said.
Since its commencement on Friday, the tournament has brought together emerging talents from across Africa, fostering unity, competition, and skill development.
The event will run through Sunday, March 29, with teams continuing their quest for both glory and growth in Lagos.
The Fifth Women’s Invitational T20I tournament serves as a vital stepping stone for cricketing talent across the continent. By combining high-level competition with cultural exchange, the event honors the legacy of Patricia Kambarami while strengthening the future of the sport. Nigeria remains focused on securing the championship trophy on home soil as the matches progress toward the final day.
