Nigeria's U-18 African Title Vindicates Grassroots Investment, Says NVBF President Nimrod

The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, says the country's triumph at the 2026 African Nations U-18 Boys Championship is proof that sustained investment in grassroots development is beginning to yield remarkable results.

Nigeria's U-18 boys claimed their maiden continental title after a dominant 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) victory over hosts Egypt in Wednesday's final in Alexandria, securing both the African crown and qualification for the 2027 FIVB Boys' U-19 World Championship.

Reacting to the achievement, Nimrod described the victory as a major milestone for Nigerian volleyball, noting that it reflected the federation's consistent commitment to nurturing young talents over the past nine years.

According to him, the success of the team is expected to open doors for many of the players, with clubs in North Africa and other parts of the world likely to take an interest in the emerging stars.

"This victory is a reflection of the hard work put into our grassroots development programme. It also provides a platform for these young players to secure opportunities with clubs in North Africa and even outside the continent," Nimrod said.

The NVBF president also lauded members of the federation's board and other stakeholders for their support throughout the championship, saying their contributions played a significant role in the team's historic achievement.

He reaffirmed the federation's resolve to continue strengthening volleyball development across the country, adding that attention would now turn to preparations for the 2026 African Nations Championship involving Nigeria's senior men's and women's teams.

Nimrod expressed confidence that the U-18 team's continental success would serve as a springboard for even greater accomplishments, inspiring the next generation of Nigerian volleyball players to excel on both the African and global stages.

The historic triumph highlights the progress of Nigeria's grassroots volleyball programme and reinforces the federation's commitment to developing young talent. With attention now shifting to the senior national teams, the success of the U-18 side provides renewed optimism for the future of Nigerian volleyball.
