Nigeria Open IHF Nations Trophy With 39-18 Rout of Ghana

Nigeria’s Senior Women Handball team announced their arrival at the inaugural IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III in emphatic fashion, cruising past Ghana 39-18 in their opening Group Stage match in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Nigerian side, under the guidance of coach Michael Taangahar, produced a dominant display at the Palais Des Sports De Ouaga 2000, taking control of the encounter from the opening whistle.

Nigeria established an 18-7 advantage by halftime, leaving Ghana with little room to respond as the West Africans struggled to contain the pace and attacking efficiency of their opponents.

The Nigerian team maintained its momentum after the restart, adding 21 more goals while keeping Ghana at bay to complete a convincing 21-goal victory.

Queen Modebe was instrumental in Nigeria’s commanding performance and was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player of the match for her outstanding contribution.

The victory gives Nigeria an encouraging start to their campaign as they prepare for another challenging Group Stage encounter against hosts Burkina Faso on Friday.

The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
