Nigeria continued its dominant campaign at the 2026 African Nations Cup Beach Volleyball Zone 3 Championship, with the country's men's and women's teams extending their unbeaten runs on Day 2 of the competition in Badagry, Lagos State.
The hosts produced another flawless performance, highlighted by impressive displays from both women's teams, who claimed two straight-set victories each to remain among the standout performers in the tournament.
Nigeria's first women's pair opened the day with a convincing 21-9, 21-9 victory over Côte d'Ivoire I before following it up with another commanding 21-11, 21-13 win against Ghana I.
The second Nigerian women's team also enjoyed a successful outing, defeating Côte d'Ivoire II 21-12, 21-18 before overcoming Ghana II 21-18, 21-15 to complete a perfect day for the hosts.
In the men's event, Nigeria's first team cruised past Liberia in straight sets, winning 21-12, 21-6 to strengthen its position in the competition.
Elsewhere, Ghana II defeated Benin II 21-14, 21-17, while Niger Republic I comfortably dispatched Liberia 21-8, 21-9.
Benin I secured a straight-set victory over Côte d'Ivoire I, winning 21-12, 21-16, but the Ivorians forced a golden set after Côte d'Ivoire II defeated Benin II 21-19, 21-14. Benin eventually claimed the tie with a 15-8 win in the deciding golden set.
Côte d'Ivoire I later responded with a convincing 21-6, 21-13 victory over Liberia.
The women's competition also produced exciting contests as Ghana I defeated Niger Republic I 21-19, 21-11, while Ghana II overcame Niger Republic II in three sets, winning 21-18, 17-21, 15-5.
Niger Republic I edged Benin I 2-1, taking the deciding set 15-8 after splitting the opening two sets.
Benin Republic II defeated Côte d'Ivoire II 21-8, 21-9, while Côte d'Ivoire I beat Benin Republic I 21-17, 21-17 before sealing the overall tie with a 15-8 victory in the golden set.
With the group stage gathering pace, Nigeria has strengthened its status as one of the tournament favourites, particularly in the women's competition, where both pairs remain unbeaten after two days of action in Badagry.
The impressive start has placed the host nation in a strong position as the championship progresses. Nigeria will be looking to maintain its unbeaten momentum and convert its dominant performances into a successful title challenge on home sand.
