The Nigeria Fencing Federation (NFF) has officially reaffirmed its preparedness to host the 23rd African Fencing Championships, scheduled for June 25–29, 2025, in Lagos. Organisers say the championship will take place at a world-class venue and will bring together senior-level fencers from across the continent.
This upcoming event follows Nigeria’s recent success as a host nation, including last December’s Men’s Junior Epee World Cup at Charterhouse Lagos and the African Championships held in 2020. Under President Adeyinka Samuel, the NFF has strategically positioned Nigeria to become a leading hub for major fencing events in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking on the achievement, Samuel highlighted the country’s expanding credentials: “Hosting successive high-level competitions, not just locally but globally, demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment and capability within the international fencing community”.
The most recent calendar from the International Fencing Federation confirms that the seniors’ individual foil competition will take place on June 27, followed by the team event for men’s foil on June 29, both in Lagos .
The African Championships represent not only competitive excellence, but also provide ranking opportunities ahead of higher-profile tournaments, including the 2026 Commonwealth Championships and the Paris 2028 Olympic qualifiers . With experienced organisational leadership and proven venues, Nigeria appears well-positioned to deliver a successful continental fencing congress.
