The Nigeria Fencing Federation will host the third edition of its Women in Coaching Online Session on October 30, 2026, as part of efforts to support women coaches and strengthen professional development in fencing. The virtual programme will bring together coaches, administrators and international fencing figures for discussions on leadership, career growth, technical development and coaching skills.
Nigeria’s Bola Suru will host the session, with Malaysia’s Laura Simon serving as co-host. The programme will also feature an intensive practical épée coaching session led by Dr Gennady Tyshler, a Fencing Master, coach educator and President of the FIE Coaches Council.
Tyshler’s session will focus on practical coaching methods and athlete development. Participants are expected to gain direct insights into modern coaching approaches from an experienced international coach.
Three-time Olympian Azza Besbes of Tunisia is another major speaker on the programme. The former Tunisian fencer will discuss her experience competing at the highest level and share lessons from her international career with women coaches and other participants.
Representatives of the FIE Women and Fencing Council are also expected to take part. Their involvement is expected to broaden the international reach of the programme while creating opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange within women's fencing.
The coaching programme will include sessions on several areas of professional development. Meirav Ofri Hershkovich will address challenges facing women coaches and opportunities for career advancement, while Teodora Visnjic will lead a presentation on safeguarding in coaching.
The Vice President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, Rachael Samuel, is also expected to contribute insights on business strategies and personal development for coaches, according to a separate report on the programme.
The federation said the initiative is designed to give women coaches access to education, mentorship and practical knowledge. It also aims to provide a platform for participants to exchange experiences and develop skills that can be applied to athlete training and coaching careers.
The session will be held online through Google Meet from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. WAT on October 30. Organisers expect participants from different countries and coaching backgrounds, providing an opportunity for wider collaboration across the fencing community.
