Nigeria draw Ghana in Beach Soccer AFCON qualifying second round

Nigeria's Super Sand Eagles have been drawn against Ghana in the second round of the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The West African rivals will meet over two legs, with the winner moving closer to qualification for the continental finals in Senegal.

The first leg is scheduled for October 9-11, while the return fixture will take place between October 16 and 18. The two matches will decide which team advances from the second-round tie.

The draw sets up another competitive meeting between two West African football nations. Nigeria will enter the tie with considerable experience in African beach soccer and will be determined to overcome Ghana and maintain their place among the continent's leading teams.

The Super Sand Eagles have enjoyed a strong record in the competition over the years. Nigeria have won the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations twice and have regularly featured in the latter stages of the tournament.

Ghana, however, will provide a serious test. The Black Sharks will be aiming to use the two-legged format to secure a major scalp and reach the finals in Senegal.

The qualification tie also comes at an important stage for Nigeria's beach soccer programme. The team will need to combine defensive discipline with attacking efficiency across both matches, as a poor result in either leg could put their qualification hopes under serious pressure.

Senegal will host the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in November. CAF confirmed Senegal among the hosts of major continental competitions for the 2026-27 cycle, with the Beach Soccer AFCON scheduled to follow the qualifying campaign.

The tournament will provide the continent's leading beach soccer nations with another opportunity to compete for African honours. The competition is also expected to carry significance for the pathway towards the 2027 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

For Nigeria, the immediate target is Ghana. The Super Sand Eagles must negotiate the two-leg encounter in October before they can look ahead to the final tournament in Senegal.

The first leg between October 9 and 11 will therefore be crucial. Nigeria will then have the return fixture from October 16 to 18 to complete the job and secure their place among Africa's beach soccer elite.
