Nigeria Defeat Egypt to Win 2026 African U18 Boys Volleyball Championship

Nigeria have been crowned champions of the 2026 African U18 Boys Volleyball Championship after a commanding straight-sets victory over hosts Egypt in the final played in Alexandria. The Nigerian team produced an impressive display to defeat the home side 3-0 and lift the continental trophy.

The final ended 25-22, 25-21, 25-14 in favour of Nigeria on Wednesday, July 29. The young Nigerians showed composure in the opening two sets before taking complete control in the third to seal the title without dropping a set in the championship match.

Egypt entered the final with the backing of the home crowd and were expected to provide a stern challenge. They remained competitive during the opening exchanges, but Nigeria handled the pressure well and made the most of key attacking opportunities to edge the first two sets.

The third set saw Nigeria raise their level even further. Their solid blocking, accurate serving and disciplined defence limited Egypt's attacking options as they opened a comfortable lead before closing out the match 25-14 to complete a memorable victory.

The triumph underlines Nigeria's growing reputation in age-grade volleyball on the African continent. Winning the title against the tournament hosts also highlights the team's resilience and tactical discipline throughout the competition. The championship was staged in Alexandria from July 20 to July 30, bringing together several of Africa's leading youth volleyball nations.

The success is another positive moment for Nigerian volleyball, with the country's youth programmes continuing to produce competitive teams at continental events. The latest achievement follows recent encouraging performances by Nigeria's junior national sides in African competitions and strengthens hopes for future success at higher international levels.

By lifting the African U18 Boys Championship trophy, Nigeria have established themselves as the continent's best team in the age category for 2026. The victory also provides a major confidence boost for the players as they continue their development and prepare for future international competitions.
