Nigeria Customs Service to Host Open Volleyball Trials Ahead of 2025 CGC Premier League

Posted : 08 July 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Sports Unit has announced open selection trials for volleyball players in preparation for the 2025 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League and the 2026 African Club Championships.

According to Samuel Onikeku, Head of Sports at the NCS, the women’s trials are scheduled to take place from July 9 to July 19 at the Nigeria Customs Service Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) located in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory.

Onikeku noted that the trials are aimed at building on the momentum and positive outcomes from the 2025 Women’s Club Championship, recently held in Abuja.

He further disclosed that the men’s trials will commence immediately following the conclusion of the women’s selection process.

“In a bid to strengthen the volleyball teams of the Service for podium performances at the next African Clubs Volleyball Championship, the Sports Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service is organizing a two-week selection trial for female volleyball players interested in representing the Service,” the statement read.

“This invitation is open to all female volleyball players in Nigeria. Transportation, accommodation, and feeding will be provided throughout the trial period.”

He added that the same level of support will be extended to male players during their selection process.

The NCS also emphasized its commitment to improving its overall performance in the upcoming 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League as part of its broader strategy to achieve excellence in national and continental volleyball competitions.
