Nigeria Customs Secure Dominant Sweep Over GLC Burundi in African Championship

Posted : 21 April 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) women’s volleyball team delivered a commanding performance to sweep aside GLC of Burundi in their latest classification fixture. This 9–16 placement match took place following the team's exit from the tournament's Round of 16. The Nigerian side secured the victory in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 27-25, and 25-14.

NCS established their authority early in the first set by utilizing aggressive serves and efficient net play. They overwhelmed the Burundian defense to claim the opening frame by an 11-point margin. This initial success provided the foundation for what appeared to be a straightforward afternoon for the Customs girls.

The second set presented a much stiffer challenge as GLC found their rhythm and improved their defensive transitions. Both teams traded points throughout a tense period that required the set to go beyond the standard 25-point mark. The Nigerian squad eventually held their nerve to win 27-25 and take a two-set lead.

Customs regained their clinical edge in the third set to snuff out any hopes of a Burundian fightback. They returned to the high intensity shown in the opener and dominated the set from start to finish. The final 25-14 scoreline mirrored the first set and confirmed a comprehensive 3-0 result for the West Africans.

This victory ensures that the Nigeria Customs Service remains in the hunt for the highest possible ranking in the 9th to 16th place bracket. The team had faced disappointment earlier in the week but responded with the tactical discipline required for international competition. Coach reactions emphasized the importance of finishing the continental showpiece on a positive note.

The African Women Club Volleyball Championship continues to showcase the evolving quality of the sport across the continent. While the Nigerian side is no longer in the running for the trophy, their performance against GLC demonstrates their standing as a regional power. The players now focus on their remaining classification games to determine their final tournament standing.
