Nigeria is optimistic about securing qualification for both the CAVB Zone 3 Volleyball Nations Championship and the African Nations Beach Volleyball Championship, following the encouraging standard displayed in the ongoing third edition of the CGC Volleyball Premier League.
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) believes the domestic league has become a reliable platform for identifying quality players ahead of the country's continental engagements.
Speaking in Abuja, the federation's Second Vice President, Architect Adamu Tenimu, praised the remarkable improvement in the league, noting that the return of several Nigerian professionals from abroad has further raised the standard of competition.
"We've not had it this way before. Most importantly, the quality of the league has tremendously improved.
"We also have the presence of many Nigerian players who are professionals abroad and have returned to grace our league," Tenimu said.
He explained that the league was deliberately used as a talent identification platform for the CAVB Zone 3 Volleyball Nations Championship qualifiers, adding that the federation has successfully selected players capable of representing Nigeria.
"We needed to get Nigerians that will represent the nation in our upcoming competitions.
"The league has provided us with the platform to identify these players, and I can assure you that we have successfully selected players we believe can adequately represent the country," he added.
According to Tenimu, the selected players will begin camping in Abuja next week as preparations gather momentum for the Zone 3 qualifiers.
Meanwhile, NVBF Welfare Officer and Chairperson of the CAVB Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Commission, Dorcas Odedede, expressed confidence that Nigeria's beach volleyball teams are well-positioned to qualify for the African Nations Beach Volleyball Championship.
She revealed that the teams have been in camp since last week under the supervision of the national coaches to ensure they are in peak condition for the CAVB Zone 3 Beach Volleyball Qualifiers scheduled for Badagry, Lagos State.
"The players have been in camp since last week to ensure they are in top form for the Badagry qualifiers.
"We are positive that Nigeria will qualify for the African Nations Beach Volleyball Championship," Odedede said.
She also disclosed that Nigeria's women's team has already secured qualification for the continental championship, while expressing confidence that the men's team will also book its place.
"To add to that, the female team has already qualified, and we are confident in the quality of players we are presenting.
"These are players who recently returned with gold medals, and we believe they will make the country proud," she stated.
Nigeria will host the CAVB Zone 3 African Nations Beach Volleyball Qualifiers in Badagry, Lagos State, from July 3 to 7, with eight West African countries expected to compete for places at the African Nations Beach Volleyball Championship.
With preparations progressing well and confidence growing within the federation, Nigeria will be aiming to capitalize on home advantage and secure qualification for the continental championships. The upcoming qualifiers will provide another opportunity for the country's volleyball and beach volleyball teams to demonstrate their growing strength on the regional stage.
